County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III Announces Departure of Vennard Wright as Director

Spencer Thomas named as Acting Director of the Office of Information Technology during replacement search.

Upper Marlboro, MD: Today, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III announced the departure of Office of Information Technology (OIT) Director Vennard Wright, effective January 3, 2017. Director Wright has led OIT since 2012 and previously served as Deputy Director at the start of County Executive Baker’s Administration in December, 2010. Spencer Thomas, Division Chief, Administrative Services, OIT, has been named the Acting Director while the search for a permanent replacement is pursued.


“Vennard Wright has been a pivotal part of the stellar progress, growth, and influence that the Office of Information Technology has achieved over the last six years,” said County Executive Baker. “Under his leadership, OIT has brought the technical capabilities of the Prince George’s County government into the 21st Century. I appreciate and thank him for his six years of exemplary service to the residents of Prince George’s County and the innovative improvements he has made to the County’s technical infrastructure.”


As Director of OIT, Director Wright led the department through two complete website redesigns, an intranet redesign as well as the creation of Prince George's County mobile apps and data and digital portal sites. Over the last six years, innovations at OIT also have led to better constituent and business services such as the installment of the Inter County Broadband Network (ICBN) at all County high schools and middle schools, deployment of “Govolution” for online payments, and the creation of the “CountyClick 311” portal and mobile app and the “Subscribe MyPGC” e-mail notification system. Furthermore, Director Wright encouraged and instilled in OIT employees the value of STEM based technology youth mentorships and opportunities, such as the “Tech Prince George's” career pipeline and the “Pathways to Technology Early College” (PTEC) program for 150 students at Frederick Douglass High School. OIT’s accomplishments under Director Wright, attracted multiple top 10 finishes in the annual Digital Counties Survey as well as multiple National Association of Counties (NACo) and DigIT Achievement Awards
