Obesity is a medical term that means you weigh at least 20% more than what is considered a normal weight for your height. It means that you are more likely to have certain chronic health conditions including heart disease, a stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes. In most cases, obesity can be controlled through diet and exercise. The Prince George’s County Health Department is working hard to improve the health and life expectancy of County residents. With reducing our rates of obesity as its target, the Health Department has implemented a 3-year work plan focusing on chronic disease prevention, detection and management activities and initiatives.
