Continue Momentum to Reduce Infant Mortality and Low Birth Weights

The Prince George’s County Health and Human Services Departments understand the importance for all pregnant women -- in all ethnic and socioeconomic groups -- to see a doctor early and often during pregnancy. The Health Department can make it easy for mothers-to-be to get the medical care necessary to have a healthy baby and is available to assist future and expectant mothers. The Health Department offers:

  • Medical care during pregnancy and after the baby is born;

  • Arrangements for hospital delivery;
  • Family planning education;
  • Referral to the Child Health Program;
  • Possible visits to your home;
  • Assistance in enrolling women eligible for HealthChoice, a program that provides free health insurance to pregnant women and children with moderate to low incomes;
  • Referrals to the Women, Infant and Children(WIC) Program and other health services; and,
  • Language interpretation for clients who speak Spanish and other languages.
