Statement from Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy Regarding Racism

“In response to recent incidents showing bias or prejudice against Black people in the country in our state and in our county, I want to make it clear that acts of hate or discrimination will not be tolerated in Prince George’s County. I support and join those who confront bigotry of all forms and seek justice in all forums, including the criminal justice system.

“Our community and country are at a crossroads. We must not only reflect on how people of color have been treated historically, but we must seize this moment to look for ways to change systems that have perpetrated hate and bigotry. It is incumbent upon us as elected officials, faith leaders, residents and all stakeholders in the community to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and can pursue the American dream, without fear or intimidation. I believe the murders of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor and Ahmad Aubrey and countless others like Emit Till have brought us to this crossroads where we can choose to radically move in a new direction. Let’s not lose this opportunity to do so. Let’s work together to root out discrimination and hate and the evil associated with them in an effort to dismantle those systems that have perpetuated the dualism that America must rid herself of.”
