During Women's History Month, the Prince George's County Office of the County Executive presents a scholarship in memory of Congresswoman Gladys Noon Spellman. Ms. Spellman was a celebrated public servant of Prince George's County for more than two decades. This year’s theme is “Honoring Trailblazing Women in Labor and Business”.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Candidate must be a Prince George's County resident
Candidate must be in the 12th grade (accepted into college or pending)
Candidate should be planning to major in the areas of political science, public administration/government, public safety or health
Candidate should be involved in school activities, as well as non-school activities
Candidate should provide examples of community service
Candidate must be in good academic standing
Candidate must demonstrate financial need
If selected, candidate must be able to attend the Annual Women's History Month Luncheon
Amber Nicole Stanford
Prince George’s Middle College High School student Amber Nicole Stanford received a $2,000 scholarship as the 2017 Gladys Noon Spellman Scholarship Award Recipient. Amber is a senior in the Allied Health Sciences Program at Prince George’s Community College. She has a 4.377 grade point average and is on the Dean’s List. Amber will graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree at the completion of her program this Spring. She plans to continue her studies in Biology and History in preparation for a career in public health.
