Scrap Metal Curbside Collection 



1.  Is an appointment required for curbside Scrap Metal Collection?  

All curbside collections require an appointment scheduled with PGC311. Services are available every third Monday of the month for Prince George's County residents who receive County trash and recycling collection services. For all other times, drop off is available at the Brown Station Road Residential Convenience Center. For more information, please visit the Dept. of Environment website link below. 

2.  Is the metal collected recycled? 

Yes, scrap metal and items predominately made of metal are recycled. This is considered a best practice for keeping resources out of the landfill.

3.  What types of materials / items are considered “scrap metal”? 

Examples of acceptable items are available in Knowledge Articles under "Waste Done Right." This includes items made predominately of metal such as metal file cabinets, baker’s racks, chairs, framing, end tables, light fixtures (without the bulbs), home décor, rakes, wheelbarrows, hot water heaters. 

4.  Are aluminum drink cans considered scrap metal under the scrap metal service?

No.  Aluminum drink cans should still be placed in your household recycling cart. 

5.  Who is responsible for picking up scrap metal items once an appointment has been scheduled? 

Your regular trash/recycling/compost hauler for your area will be servicing the scheduled scrap metal requests.

 6. Will there be a separate collection truck for scrap metal recycling collection?

Yes, there will be a separate collection truck for scrap metal collection. This scheduled collection will take place on the 3rd Monday of every month. 

7.  What do I do if I see the hauler’s crew placing scrap metal in with the compost collections? 

Hauler crews should never mix scrap metal in with compost collections.  Incidences of mixing materials into the same collection truck should be reported to PGC311.

8.  Can I get on-premise (front door/back door) collection of scrap metal?

No.  This service type is only curbside collection.
