Claims - Filing A Claim

  
1. What is a claim for damages?     

A claim is a request for payment for a loss, injury or damages that you incurred in an incident/accident. 

2. How long do I have to file a claim? 


You have one (1) year pursuant to the Local Government Tort Claims Act.

3. What information do I need to file a damaged property or injury claim? 


You will be required to provide both date and time of incident as well as exact location and specific details about the incident.   
         
4. Where do I file a claim? 

You will need to contact Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Ltd., Prince George's County Government's third-party administrator, which handles the County claims. They can be reached at 855-653-7470. 

5. How long does the investigation take?


Investigations will be done as quickly as possible. Each claim has its own merits and specifics that need to be investigated. 

6. I was injured, who is responsible for my medical expenses?


If a claim is made and it is determined that the County is legally responsible for your injury, then you will be compensated. 

7. How do I track the status of my claim? 

You may periodically contact your claim adjuster for a status update.

8. What if my claim is denied, and I disagree with that outcome? 


You have the right to file a claim with the court system. 

9.  My vehicle was damaged by a storm drain grate. My tire was slashed, and my alignment is off. How can I have my car repaired? I have an estimate.

If the damage occurred on a state-maintained road (numbered roads such as MD Route 5), please contact the State Treasurer at 410-260-7684 or visit the State Treasurer's Insurance Division. If the damage occurred on a county-maintained road, please contact Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Ltd., Prince George's County Government's third-party administrator, which handles the County claims.
