Emergency Solutions Grants

Emergency shelters are places for people to live temporarily when they can't live in their previous residence. The Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is the administering agency of the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program.  If you need housing assistance, call the Homeless Hotline, toll free, on 1-888-731-0999.

Allocating Funds

DHCD partners with the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services (DSS) to implement the ESG program. Through contracts with private non-profit agencies in the County, DSS uses ESG funds mainly to provide emergency shelters and to help prevent homelessness among households experiencing a temporary crisis. In addition to providing shelter, the ESG funds help to link homeless individuals and families to transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and other appropriate housing options.

For more information, please contact the Department of Social Services at 301-909-6000 or the Homeless Hotline number.
