Eligibility

Eligibility for Medicaid for most people or Qualified Health Plan (QHP) is based on the family's or individuals Modified Adjusted Gross income (MAGI). This is the figure used to determine eligibility for lower costs in the Marketplace and for Medicaid, the Maryland Children's Health Program (MHCP), and MHCP Premium.  Generally, modified adjusted gross income is your adjusted gross income plus any tax-exempt Social Security, interest, or foreign income you have.

Medicaid

Individual or families whose income is below 138% Federal Poverty Level (FPL) may be eligible for Medicaid. Applicants can enroll into Medicaid at any time of the year, and do not need to wait for open or special enrollment periods.

Qualified Health Plan

Under the Affordable Care Act, is an insurance plan that is certified by the Health Insurance Marketplace, provides essential health benefits, follows established limits on cost-sharing ( like deductibles, co-payments, and out-of-pocket maximum amounts), and meets other requirements.  All of the qualified health plans available at MarylandHealthConnection.gov qualify as minimum essential coverage.  So, if you buy one, you will not have to worry about a penalty for not having insurance when you file your taxes.  And, all of our qualified health plans cover essential health benefits and meet our other standards.
