Free Tax Preparation Assistance Now Available
The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services (DSS) is offering qualifying residents free tax preparation assistance at its first-ever Tax Preparation Assistance Site located at its Family Investment Division (FID) office in Temple Hills, MD. County residents with a household income of $67,000 or less from the last taxable year, now have the opportunity to receive assistance from IRS-certified volunteers, who will electronically file returns at no cost. Appointments are required.
This service furthers our mission and commitment to improving the quality of life for our families and residents in Prince George’s County. This Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program site is made possible through joint collaboration between the Maryland Governor’s Office, Maryland Department of Human Services, Prince George’s County Department of Social Services, Maryland Comptroller’s Office, Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation, and the Cash Campaign of Maryland.

What You Should Know
Location: 4235 28th Ave, Marlow Heights, MD 20748.
Parking instructions: Free parking is available to building visitors at the gated satellite parking lot for the Jemal's Scuderi Building, during business hours. The satellite parking lot is a short walking distance from the front and rear entrances to the building.
Disclaimer: Parking at the building is by permit only and is not managed by the Department of Social Services. Vehicles not displaying proper permit may be towed at owner's expense.

What to Bring to Your Appointment
To ensure a smooth tax filing process, you must have all required documents at your appointment.
Personal Documents
- Social Security Card for everyone on the return
- Photo ID for taxpayer (and spouse, if filing jointly)
- Bank account information for direct deposit
Tax Documents
- W-2 forms for all jobs worked in 2024
- Tax forms for other income, such as 1099-G, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-K, W-2G, and 1099-INT/DIV
- Form 1095-A (if healthcare was purchased through the marketplace)
- Forms 1098, 1098-E, 1098-T (if applicable)
- Identity Protection PIN (if issued)
- Letter from childcare provider with address, Tax ID number, name of child, and amount paid
- Records of expenses to itemize deductions (if applicable)
- Records of self-employment income and expenses
- A copy of last year’s tax return (if available)
- Any IRS or state tax agency correspondence
Important: Tax refunds do not affect your eligibility for benefits like SNAP and Temporary Cash Assistance, as these benefits are not taxable.
