Application Process
The Housing Authority Prince George's County (HAPGC) will accept preliminary applications online only, for its tenant based voucher wait list during the period of October 5-16. HAPGC expects that at least 5,000 households will file preliminary applications during this period. After the preliminary applications are filed, the new tenant based wait list will be established for 5,000 households. In the event that more than 5,000 preliminary applications are received, HAPGC will reduce the number of applicants to 5,000 using a computer-generated representative random selection. Household information on the preliminary application will be used to group applicants according to the following categories:

Preference System
The PHA uses the following preference system:
Residency preference is for families who live, work, or are hired to work in Prince George’s County. A family must first qualify under this preference in order to receive any of the following preferences:
HAPGC is proposing that a random selection of households to create the 5,000 household wait list. Once the new wait list is created, HAPGC intends to issue available tenant based vouchers (not allocated to other set aside programs or HUD special funded programs), subject to appropriations, according to these percentages.
Creating a Wait List
All preliminary applications submitted during the wait list opening period (October 5 -16, 2015) will have the same date and time of their applications. The computer-generated wait list will create a unique list number for each selected applicant within the representative categories. The new tenant based voucher wait list created from this preliminary application process will be utilized until it has been exhausted.

Residency preference is for families who live, work, or are hired to work in Prince George’s County. A family must first qualify under this preference in order to receive any of the following preferences:

Head of Household or Co-Head* has paid employment of at least 30 hours per week.
- Documentation of paid employment for at least the past 30 days must be provided.
- Head of Household or Co-Head are 62 years of age or older.
- Head of Household or Co-Head qualify as handicapped/disabled.
- Any member of the household is medically verified as handicapped/disabled.

Veterans- Head, spouse, co-head or sole member is a veteran of the United States military with an Honorable Discharge.
- A person who served in the military that was dishonorably discharged is not eligible for the veteran’s preference.
- Head of Household or Co-Head is in a verified full time training or educational program with the intent of securing employment within the next 12 months as a result of completing the program.
- Household has successfully completed a transitional housing program under Prince George’s County continuum of Care Program.
