Lunch and Learn returns with special guest the Reverend Dr. Robert Turner, author of Creating a Culture of Repair: Taking Action on the Road to Reparations in conversation with the Prince George's County Office of Human Rights and the Prince George's County Memorial Library System

Robert Turner provides an accessible guide for individuals and groups wanting to influence significant institutional action while also acting on their own to repair the effects of racial injustice in our communities, churches, and spheres of influence. Dividing into categories of individual, social, institutional, and spiritual repair, Turner offers more than one hundred actions readers can begin practicing and implementing immediately.

Lunch and Learn, a partnership series between the Office of Human Rights and PGCMLS, debuted in the summer of 2024. Today's event is the kick-off Lunch and Learn for Autumn 2024 so grab your lunch and tune in! Join us every Tuesday from 12 to 1 pm between now and November 19th as we welcome a experts speaking on a variety of topics, from reparations to justice to voting and much more!

About the Reverend Dr. Robert Turner: 

Rev. Dr. Robert R.A. Turner is a millennial who is passionate about his calling to serve this “present age”. Graduating Cum Laude from the Honors Program at the University of Alabama for his Bachelor’s degree, Dr. Turner continued his education at Interdenominational Theological Center’s Turner Seminary in acquiring a master’s degree in Divinity, graduating with honors. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary. He is a proud lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and locally a member of Baltimore Alumni Chapter. He is a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, dad and friend. 

Dr. Turner served as Pastor of the historic Vernon A.M.E. Church, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which has the only edifice that survived the 1921 Race Massacre on Greenwood. As the Pastor of Vernon, Dr. Turner helped to lead the fight for justice for the victims of the 1921 Race Massacre. His leadership roles spanned across different sectors during his time of ministry as the Academic Dean for Jackson Theological Seminary, National African American Reparations Commission, and Advisory Board of the Blackburn Institute, University of Alabama. Dr. Turner was a member of the 2023 Class of Leadership Baltimore and serve on the Board of Directors for the Baltimore Children and Youth Fund.
 
Presently, Dr. Turner is the Pastor of Empowerment Temple A.M.E. Church in Baltimore, MD, continuing his passion and work in support of kingdom building, the empowerment of his parishioners, and outreach to the community where every month he marches 40 miles from Baltimore to the White House for reparations. Dr. Turner serves as a guest lecturer, life coach, trainer, presenter, facilitator & motivational speaker focusing on racism, community development, grassroots organizing,  faith-based community involvement, and civic engagement and is an author of the recently published Creating a Culture of Repair.

Dr. Turner has been featured by numerous news media including CBS’s 60 Minutes and Evening News, ABC, BBC, CNN, Good Morning America, MSNBC, Reuters, LA Times, New York Times, and the Washington Post along with Politico where he continues to ensure his message on social justice is heard.
