MPIA and FOIA Requests

Maryland Public Information Act related requests may be submitted to the Records Management Division. The MPIA allows an agency to charge a “reasonable fee” for copies of records with the first two (2) hours of request preparation, research, and review performed free of charge.

Effective July 1, 2022, any additional time, beyond the first two (2) hours, required to satisfy the request will be billed at a rate of $50 an hour.

PLEASE NOTE: The Police Department is required to verify that the person requesting the police report is a party of interest, party in interest, an agent/attorney authorized to represent the party or media source. Citizens and the public can receive copies of requested responsive information; however, we must adhere to the guidelines and rules of the Maryland Public Information Act.

 
Under the Maryland Public Information Act, certain information is required to be redacted from the requested responsive information and/or police reports before release.
