Emergency Operations Center
In any disaster, or crisis our County may come to face, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) must maintain a constant state of readiness at all times. Prince George's County is home to a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which facilitates our mission of central command for Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation prior to, during and in the aftermath of an emergency. Personnel from the OEM staff this facility and other vital agencies are commonly requested to assist given the unique nature of a disaster.
Although they do not serve as a first-responder to the scene of a disaster, the EOC is tasked with collaborating with on-scene personnel to provide coordination of resources and the necessary information to respond properly. Nested underneath the Office of Homeland Security, the OEM is led by The Director of Emergency Management. This role makes decisions that address the needs of each and every disaster and is the point of contact for the County Executive, Chief Administrative Officer and members of the Prince George’s County Council in the event of an emergency
The Office of Emergency Management operates by these objectives:
- Control and Coordination
- Coordinate State/Federal Assistance
- Coordinate with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency and other local agencies
- Coordinate public communication in disasters
