Updates to Prince George’s County Snow Response Plan
Dear Prince George’s County Residents,
Following the recent snowstorm, many of you reached out to share your concerns about snow-covered streets and icy road conditions that persisted in the days following the storm. I deeply appreciate your feedback and understand the frustrations this caused for residents navigating these challenges.
I recognize, along with the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), that our snow response did not meet the high standards we set for ourselves. Residents deserve timely plowing and salting during and after snow events to maintain public safety and accessibility.
While DPW&T has a comprehensive snow removal plan in place, the recent storm exposed key resource limitations that hindered our ability to address both primary and residential routes effectively. Additionally, technical issues with the PGC Track Snow portal led to inaccurate updates on snowplow progress, which added to the frustration of our community.
I want to assure you that we are taking decisive action to address these shortcomings. DPW&T has conducted a thorough review of its snow operations and identified immediate, medium, and long-term improvements to strengthen our response moving forward. These measures include:
- Increasing Resources: Adjusting operations to ensure sufficient equipment and personnel resources better address primary and residential streets.
- Enhancing Communication Tools: We've fixed the PGC Track Snow Portal to provide accurate, real-time updates for residents.
- Improving Quality Assurance: Implementing stronger oversight and quality checks to ensure that snow removal efforts meet the needs of all neighborhoods.
The hard work of DPW&T employees is greatly appreciated, and we are committed to making the necessary changes to better serve you, our residents. Our goal is to deliver the high-quality snow response you expect and deserve, ensuring our roads are safe and accessible during winter weather events.
Thank you for your continued partnership, feedback, and patience as we work to improve our processes. Together, we will ensure a better response in future snow events.
Sincerely,
Tara Jackson
