Sock, Hat and Gloves Drive

2024 Sock Hat Gloves Drive

Each year, the Prince George's County Police Department Community First Division collects and distributes socks, hats, and gloves to those in need, particularly those experiencing homelessness. This initiative is a Community Service Project for Police Athletic League (PAL) and Explorer youth to instill values of empathy and support for those in need.

This mission of this program is to collect and distribute essential items such as new socks, hats, and gloves.  With winter approaching, these donations are particularly critical.   Despite being the most requested items at homeless shelters, socks remain among the least donated.  By engaging youth in this initiative, the program also aims to instill a sense of responsibility and compassion for the community.

To raise awareness and encourage community contributions, PAL and Explorer youth disseminate information across Prince George's County. The response from the community has consistently been overwhelmingly generous, leading to a successful donation drive. Every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day of service, we will hold a discussion with youth participants to reflect on the importance of giving back, followed by the distribution of the collected items to local homeless shelters and encampments in Prince George's County Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Donations accepted until January 10, 2025 at any Prince George's County Police Station.  For more information, please contact Corporal Black (240) 695-7508.
