Education

Prince George's County's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program strives to keep bicyclists and pedestrians safe by educating them, along with drivers, on the rules of the road.

The program holds several outreach events a year, including DPW&T Street Teams that canvass high-crash areas in the County promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety.

A few past DPW&T Street Team locations have included: Indian Head Highway (MD-210), Annapolis Road (MD-450), Kenilworth Avenue (MD-201), and Baltimore Avenue (US-1).

On Friday, May 11, 2018, from 2pm-5pm, the regional traffic safety campaign Street Smart in conjunction with DPW&T, Prince George's County Public Schools, and other agency partners, will deploy a Street Team to the intersection of Silver Hill Road & Pennsylvania Avenue near Suitland High School. Local students are invited to participate with the Street Team, and distribute safety information for bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers.

On Monday, April 23, 2018, DPW&T, Street Smart, the Parks Department, and the City of Hyattsville canvassed roadways around the West Hyattsville Metro Station distributing traffic safety information.

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Program also visits elementary schools, in Prince George's County, to participate in 'Look Up! Look Out!' safety presentations. In 2017, the program visited a dozen schools.

Throughout spring 2018, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is scheduled to give 'Look Up! Look Out!' presentations at the following Prince George's County schools:
