Highway Maintenance

The Office of Highway Maintenance provides roadway infrastructure, litter control, and stormwater management to all users in the County in order to ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing transportation system. Services are provided from maintenance shops located in (Brandywine, Glenn Dale and Forestville), and priority crews are used to maintain (asphalt, channel, flood control and inlet) in order to meet the level of service demand and to support all Core Services. The Office of Highway Maintenance is comprised of four divisions:

Road Maintenance Division

The Road Maintenance and Road Construction Division is responsible for the maintenance of 2,000+ miles of County-maintained roadways and for the resurfacing/reconstruction of roadways due to road failure or in accordance with established resurfacing inventory developed from the Department’s Needs List. As part of the Prince George's County Roadway Preservation Program, maintenance includes the repair of sinkholes and potholes, shoulder repair, removal and replacement of concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, driveway aprons, the installation of underdrains, the installation and/or upgrade of handicapped access ramps per ADA standards and the repair/resurfacing of the roadway pavement. Special Services Division

The Special Services Division provides litter removal services to the traveling public in order to ensure the roadways are aesthetically pleasing. Litter control is one of the Department’s primary goals. County litter removal services are completed on a cycle/rotation basis utilizing in-house, contractor and inmate crews. Additionally, the Department places special emphasis on ensuring that the gateways into the County remain litter-free.

Traffic Operations Division

The Prince George's County Traffic Response and Information Partnership (TRIP) Center was established to effectively manage the operations of the County’s transportation system. The Center provides Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) personnel with the enhanced capability to monitor and control transportation operations by collecting and analyzing traffic data, as well as disseminating relevant transportation information to the general public, transportation providers, emergency service providers, public schools and area businesses. This is in sync with DPW&T's mission to provide efficient, well-maintained and environmentally-friendly transportation infrastructure systems for all users.
