Private Best Management Practices Inspection

There are over 4,000 privately-owned and maintained best management practices (BMPs) throughout Prince George’s County located on private residential and commercial properties. BMPs are techniques and structural controls used to manage the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater runoff. The purpose of BMPs is to reduce or eliminate contaminants from stormwater runoff before entering the County’s streams.

Privately-owned and maintained BMPs throughout the County are inspected for operational performance and compliance. Property owners are responsible for conducting periodical preventive maintenance of these BMPs (per owner’s manual) so that they function as designed.  The Department of the Environment (DoE) inspectors conduct inspections triennially to verify BMPs are being properly maintained and are functioning as designed.
