Bulky Trash
Prince George’s County is proud to announce a faster and improved curbside bulky trash pickup.
Once per week, residents receiving County-contracted trash and recycling collection services can set out:
- four (4) bulky items, or
- four (4) tightly secured bags with small household items
You may place these items next to your trash can on regular collection days—no appointments needed!
Use PGC311 for:
- Scheduling for residents who are only paying for bulky trash services
- Pickup of items such as scrap tires, white goods, electronics recycling, and scrap metal
Rules
- Residents must place items at the curb by 6 a.m. for pickup.
- Residents must adhere to their current HOA or civic association rules and regulations regarding trash and recycling in public areas.
- Residents of a townhome community must place their standard bulky items or bags at the curb in front of their townhome (or their assigned parking space). Please ensure nothing is blocking the collection point at the curb in front of the townhome's assigned parking space. Bulky items should be kept out of common areas. The hauler or County staff will not collect material from a common area or grounds.
- Effective February 1, 2019, for the health and safety of staff, Prince George's County residents requesting curbside collection of bulky items will be required to completely cover mattresses and box springs in a protective plastic covering. Plastic zippered mattress covers are available at many local retail stores for a nominal fee.
Mattresses and box springs delivered to the Landfill by residents do not need to be covered in a protective encasement. - Bulky Trash Collection does not pick up household trash or materials from evictions, foreclosures, unoccupied properties, commercial properties, apartment complexes, home renovations, remodeling projects, or clean lot enforcement. The disposal of materials from these sites is the responsibility of the homeowner/landlord, contractor, or business owner.
*Beat the Heat!
Residents of Prince George's County receiving County-contracted curbside waste collection services will have an earlier collection start time. Effective June 30 through September 30, County haulers will begin collecting compost, trash, and recycling at 5 a.m. Residents living in a municipality should check with their waste management office for any changes to their collection schedule. This slight shift in service will help the crews complete their routes before the most intense heat of the day, aiding in their safety and comfort.
Donating and Reusing
County residents are encouraged to consider donating, recycling, or gifting any gently used bulky items that may benefit someone else before placing them at the curb. Whether it’s a gently used couch, table, or appliance, another family may use that item and keep it out of the County landfill. View some reuse/recycling alternatives.

New Bulky Trash Collection Program
Effective July 1, 2024, the acceptable total of items for curbside bulky trash collection has increased to four (4) items instead of two (2) items.
