Slam Dunk the Junk
Anti-Littering Outreach & Stewardship Campaign
The goal of the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment (DoE) is to reduce litter throughout the County. DoE is developing an Anti-littering Outreach and Stewardship Campaign that focuses on removing existing litter and preventing future incidents of littering through behavior change.
Successful litter control is an ongoing effort that involves the entire community. An effective anti-littering strategy depends on partnerships between county agencies, businesses and residents. It includes media sponsorships and a system to measure campaign outcomes.
Hazards of Litter
Few things diminish the beauty of a community more than scattered garbage. Litter is more than unsightly, it can pose environmental, health, and safety concerns. Sharp objects like broken glass and rusty metal can injure children and pets. Decaying food and pet droppings can spread disease.
Fighting litter is everyone's job and the most important thing you can do is to choose not to litter. Proper handling of waste in the community raises the standards and expectations of everyone.
