Cherie S. Gibson

Background

Born in Baltimore County, Cherie Gibson is a 10-year resident of Prince George’s County. She is the mid-Atlantic Communications Director at HNTB Corporation, where she leads the communications and public involvement practice for Maryland, DC, Virginia and West Virginia.

She has over 20 years of experience in strategic communications, marketing and public involvement for design build, transit and mega projects. Her responsibilities include public involvement planning and stakeholder engagement, creative and artistic direction, and media relations and training. Her work as a project spokesperson, communications lead and diversity champion has played a key role in shaping public understanding of transportation planning and has helped strengthen relationships between public agencies and the community.

Professional & Civic Leadership

As a standing member of the TRB Public Involvement Committee (ADA 60), Cherie has contributed to scholarly research around public engagement and environmental justice in transportation. Cherie is an active member of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) and serves as Chair of the Corporate Relations and Program Sponsorship Committee for the WTS (Women’s Transportation Seminar)-DC Chapter.

In addition, she served as a Girl Scout troop leader and service unit leader in the County for 7 years and currently serves as the Social and Welfare Committee Chairman for the Xi Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Cherie resides in Mitchellville with her husband of 25 years and their teenage daughter. She enjoys reading, cooking and traveling with her family.

Education

She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s of Arts from Duke University.
