Mayor Johnathan M. Medlock
Mayor Johnathan M. Medlock is a servant-leader whose passion for strengthening communities has spanned more than thirty years. As an advocate and grass-roots organizer, his commitment to regenerating the city through innovative partnerships, economic development, environmental stewardship, and police reform, is unwavering.
The 18th Mayor of the City of District Heights, Johnathan M. Medlock, has served the city as a Commissioner 2016-2017, Vice Mayor (2018), and Acting Mayor from November 2019 until being elected to office in July 2020.
Since assuming office in 2020, Mayor Medlock has been diligent to meet the needs of a diverse community. Throughout the pandemic, Mayor Medlock ensured the most vulnerable had access to meals and resources. Mayor Medlock established partnerships with faith-based organizations, non-profits, and local businesses to provide COVID testing, mobile vaccinations, and financial support. Under his leadership, the City selected an Interim-Chief of Police to provide stability to the District Heights Police Department and guarantee continuity of safety for residents.
In addition to his elected and appointed positions, Medlock is a member of the Maryland Municipal League (MML), National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), and the Maryland Association of Counties (MACO). He is on the board of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia Black Child Development Institute (BDCI). From 2017-2019, Medlock was the only representative from Maryland serving on the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Committee for the National League of Cities.
