2026 Gubernatorial Primary Election Candidate Filing Information

Candidate filing for the 2026 Gubernatorial Election began February 25, 2025, and the deadline is Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 9:00 pm.

Filing Requirements for Candidacy

The following candidates must be filed at Prince George’s County Board of Elections:

  • County Executive
  • County Council At-Large
  • County Council
  • Clerk of the Circuit Court
  • Register of Wills
  • Judge of the Orphans' Court
  • Sheriff
  • Democratic Central Committee At-Large - Districts 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 47
  • Democratic Central Committee - Districts 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 47
  • Republican Central Committee - Districts 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 47
  • Board of Education - Districts 2, 3, 6, 9

Walk-ins are welcomed; however, to reduce in-person wait times, we ask that candidates email their completed documents to BOECandidateFiling@co.pg.md.us . Once these documents are received, we will schedule a time that is convenient for you to come in and review and sign the certificate of candidacy. 

All documents must be submitted before we can issue you a certificate of candidacy.

Financial Disclosures

Important: 
Financial disclosures are completed for the previous calendar year.  Any candidate that files for office during calendar year 2025 MUST file an updated financial disclosure after January 1, 2026.  The State Board of Elections requests that updated disclosures are filed prior to the candidate filing deadline (no later than February 26, 2026).

Filing Fee

There is a filing fee of $25. The fee for Central Committee is $10. The fee must be paid by either credit card, check, money order or cash.
