Mary Giles Has Been Selected as New Deputy Director

Ms. Giles, P.E., is a civil engineer with 43 years of experience in the profession. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, and she is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Maryland.

Ms. Giles grew up in Prince George’s County, attending public schools in Forest Heights, Oxon Hill and College Park. Ms. Giles has 27 years of experience employed in private land development consulting firms working primarily on Prince George’s County permit projects. She has 13 years of experience in the public sector and has served as an Associate Director in the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement since 2014.

She has a tremendous depth of knowledge in the overall Prince George’s County development process and has participated in several past and present efforts to evaluate and streamline the permit process. Ms. Giles’s high level of expertise in permitting and plan review has significantly contributed to notable projects such as National Harbor, University of Maryland Performing Arts Center, Riderwood Village, Prince George’s County Hospital in Largo, Boulevards at Capital Center, Balk Hill and Balk Hill Village, Konterra Town Center, West Hyattsville Metro Redevelopment, and numerous other land development projects. Most recently, she has also been a key participant in the development of technology platforms implemented by DPIE to automate and go digital with the plan review and permitting systems.
